The London Palladium
Over the years the world's most famous theatre has played host to some of the biggest stars in the business. Every up and coming performer's dream is to appear there and every seasoned performer longs to return to the special atmosphere that exists in the beautifully designed Frank Matcham auditorium.
The Palladium was opened in 1910 with Music Hall followed by Musical Revues with their spectacular costumes and scenery.
The 1930s welcomed the age of Variety, when anything up to fifteen different acts would share the bill, and perhaps be on stage for just a few minutes each. Well known names during the 1940s included the Crazy Gang, Max Miller, Arthur Askey, Tommy Trinder, Jack Benney and Billy Cotton.
In the 1950s the theatre came under the control of Val Parnell, known as `Mr. Showbusiness`, and saw the introduction of big American stars such as Mickey Rooney and Danny Kaye. The Palladium Pantomime was revived with great success.
The 1960-70s was the golden age of the big stars from home and abroad and this is the period that our show `Palladium Memories` focuses on. We are sure you will spot our salutes to the many stars that graced the Palladium stage including The Beatles, Max Bygraves, Benny Hill, Ken Dodd, Sammy Davis Jr, Judy Garland, Terry Scott, David Nixon, Maurice Chevalier, Sir Harry Secombe and of course, Joan Hinde and Little & Large.
